Electronic Devices and Batteries
When travelling with electronic devices or spare batteries, following safety guidelines is essential to ensure a smooth and secure flight experience. Below is the information you need to know about carrying your devices and batteries onboard.
Personal Electronic Devices You Can Carry and Use
The following personal devices can be carried for personal use and used on the aircraft when permitted by the flight crew:
- Cameras, phones, laptops, tablets, air purifiers, calculators
- Cordless noise-filtering headsets, e-watches, entertainment systems, and games
Personal Electronic Devices You Can Transport (Not Use)
These devices may be transported but cannot be used on the aircraft
- Electronic cigarettes, vaporizers, AM/FM transmitters and receivers
- Remote-controlled toys, CB radios, portable two-way radio communication devices
Battery Guidelines for Carry-On and Checked Baggage
To ensure safety, spare or loose batteries for portable electronic devices (including lithium-ion and lithium-metal) must meet the following guidelines:
- Must be carried in carry-on baggage only.
- Lithium Metal Batteries: The lithium metal content must not exceed 2 g.
- Lithium-Ion Batteries: The Watt-hour (Wh) rating must not exceed 100 Wh.
- Spare Batteries (e.g., power banks): These must be individually protected to prevent short circuits.
Exceptions for Larger Batteries
- Batteries with Watt-hour ratings exceeding 100 Wh but not exceeding 160 Wh for consumer electronic devices and PMED (Portable Medical Electronic Devices) may be carried in carry-on baggage only.
- Lithium Metal Batteries with a content exceeding 2 g but not exceeding 8 g may also be carried in carry-on baggage.
- A maximum of two spare batteries may be carried. These batteries must be individually protected to prevent short circuits.
Battery-Powered Vehicles and Devices
To ensure the safety of customers and crew, Flair Airlines does not accept the following in either carry-on or checked baggage:
- Hoverboards, Airwheels, Balance wheels/balance gliders, Electric skateboards
- Electric bikes, Mini-segways, Large-segways, Recreational scooters
Baggage with built-in charging stations (e.g. Modobags)
These items are prohibited due to incidents involving lithium battery fires from high load ratings and improper charging. For safety, customers cannot transport portable self-balancing recreational scooters on Flair Airlines flights.
Non-Spillable Dry Cell Battery-Powered Wheelchairs
- Checked Baggage Only: Customers must carry non-spillable dry-cell battery-powered wheelchairs in checked baggage.
- The battery terminals must be protected from short circuits.
- The battery must be securely attached to the wheelchair.
- Customers must request approval from the Flair Agent in advance.
Lithium Battery-Powered Wheelchairs (Collapsible)
- The removed battery(ies) must be protected (e.g., in a protective pouch) and carried in the passenger cabin.
- The battery(ies) must not exceed 300 Wh (or 160 Wh for each of the two batteries required for operation).
- A maximum of one spare battery (300 Wh) or two spares (160 Wh each) may be carried.
- It is recommended that customers make advance arrangements with Flair Airlines for approval.
Smart Bags
Smart Bags, which contain lithium-ion battery power banks, pose a fire risk in the aircraft's cargo hold.
- If checked, the battery(ies) must be removed from the Smart Bag.
- If the battery(ies) cannot be removed, the Smart Bag will not be allowed for travel.
