Travel Guidelines for Service Dogs

To ensure safety and comfort for all customers, we’ve established clear guidelines for travelling with service dogs:

  • The animal must be harnessed and certified as having been trained by a professional service animal institution (as required under Canadian Air Transportation Regulations).
  • Customers must notify Flair Airlines of their service dog's breed, dimensions, and weight.

Seating Arrangements
We will consult with the customer to determine seating for the service animal. If there is insufficient floor space in the seat row, the service dog may remain on the floor in an area where the passenger can maintain control.

Behavioural Expectations
Your service dog must always be under control, using a harness, leash, or kennel.

Avoid disruptive behaviour, such as:

  • Barking, growling, or biting
  • Jumping on people
  • Urinating or defecating in unapproved areas
  • Causing significant disruption

Failure to meet these standards may result in denial of boarding or removal from the flight.

Required Documents for Service Dogs

  • Professional training certification
  • Identification and information about the dog (breed, size, weight)

Emotional support dogs documentation requirements

We allow Emotional Support Dogs (ESD) to travel at the airline’s discretion, subject to applicable fees and requirements. Below are the key guidelines for travelling with an Emotional Support Dog.

Mental health disability documentation

A licensed physician or mental health professional must confirm the individual's disability and the necessity of the ESD.

This must include:

  • Identification of the animal (name and breed)
  • Confirmation that the animal is free from contagious diseases, ticks, and fleas
  • Proof of up-to-date vaccinations
  • Statement that the animal does not exhibit aggressive behavior or excessive barking

Timeliness
Submit all documentation to Flair Airlines at least 96 hours before departure. While Flair will attempt to accommodate late requests, early submission is recommended.

Certificate validity
The veterinary certificate must be dated within two months of the travel date.

Travel conditions

  • Approved carrier: The ESD must fit in an approved carrier that fits under the seat in front of the person with the disability, as per Flair’s cabin carrier regulations.
  • Carrier requirement: The ESD must remain inside the carrier for the duration of the flight.
  • Destination requirements: The traveler is responsible for ensuring the ESD meets all travel requirements for the destination.
Flair’s right to deny transportation

Flair Airlines reserves the right to deny transportation if the Emotional Support Dog:

  • Exhibits aggressive behavior
  • Is removed from its carrier during the flight
  • Poses a safety risk to other passengers or crew
Required documents for Emotional Support Dogs

Letter from a licensed physician/mental health professional confirming:

  • Mental health disability
  • Necessity of the ESD for accommodation

Veterinary certificate, including:

  • Dog’s identification and health status
  • Vaccination records
  • Behavior assessment
