General Identification Requirements

All customers must provide government-issued identification while travelling, including domestically in Canada.

Customer identification must exactly match the name and birth date on your ticket and boarding pass.

According to the Secure Air Travel Regulations, customers must present one of the following:

  • A valid photo identification issued by a Canadian government authority.
  • Two pieces of valid identification issued by a Canadian government authority, containing the full name and date of birth. These documents must not be expired.

Note: There is no longer a requirement to show a gender indicator.

Accepted Photo Identification

The following photo identification documents are accepted:

  • A passport issued by the country of which the customer is a citizen or national.
  • A NEXUS card.
  • A permanent resident card issued by the United States.
  • An enhanced driver’s license issued in the United States.
  • Any document referred to in the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

Accepted Non-Photo Identification (Two Required)

If you do not have a valid government-issued photo ID (such as a driver’s license, passport, recent citizenship card, permanent resident card, or a provincial health card with a photo), you will need to provide two of the following:

  • Provincial health card
  • Provincial identity card
  • Provincial or territorial government identification cards (GICs)
  • Birth certificate
  • Record of Landing Form/Confirmation of Permanent Residence (IMM 5292)
  • Immigration documents issued to foreign nationals (e.g., Work Permit, Study Permit, Visitor Record, Temporary Resident Permit, Refugee Approved Status)
  • Canadian military identification
  • Federal police identification
  • Federal, provincial, or municipal government employee identification cards
  • Old Age Security (OAS) identification card
  • Certificate of Indian Status (Status Card) issued by Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC)
  • Canada Border Services Agency NEXUS card
  • Firearms license

Identification for Children and Minors

All children and minors are recommended to bring proof of age in the form of a passport, birth certificate, or non-government-issued photo ID (e.g., student card). For more information about travelling with children, see the Families & Children section.

Unaccepted Identification

The following documents are NOT accepted as identification for flights:

  • Fishing, hunting, or boating licenses
  • Most temporary driver’s licenses
  • Temporary, paper-based renewal documents for photo identification

Additional Notes

Restricted Area Identification Cards (RAIC) are acceptable forms of identification.

International Travel Identification Requirements

All adults, children, and infants must have a valid passport for international travel. Each country may have specific travel document requirements, vaccination requirements, or health protocols.

Each customer is responsible for ensuring they have the necessary documents for travel. Always travel with proper documentation.
