climate

action

Flair is committed to reducing our Scope I, II, and III GHG emissions. This includes emissions from flights, ground-handling, operations, and in our offices. Through climate action strategies focused on emissions reductions and operational efficiency, we strive to be an industry leader in fuel and carbon efficiency, and sustainability.

our commitment to lower emissions

Since 2020, Flair Airlines has been reporting to Transport Canada for the ICAO Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) on applicable international flights, with the goal to achieve carbon neutral growth targets of the aviation industry.

To combat the worst effects of the climate crisis, businesses worldwide need to make concerted efforts to reduce their carbon footprint. We are taking meaningful steps to measure and track our emissions, implement strategies to reduce emissions on a per-passenger basis, and increase transparency around aviation’s carbon footprint.
our green fleet

We currently have one of the youngest fleets and most fuel-efficient fleets in North America. According to fleet data, fuel efficiency and emissions from our 737 Max-8 aircraft are approximately 15 to 30 per cent lower on a per seat basis than the previous generation. With each Flair Airlines Boeing 737 MAX-8 aircraft having a passenger capacity of 189 seats in a single class, and the ULCC business model dictating very high sold load-factors, Flair strives to have the lowest greenhouse gas emissions per passenger kilometer of any large airline in Canada.

Ch-aviation recognizes Flair Airlines’ fleet as Second Youngest Fleet in North America (2023).

our sustainable supply chains

Our partners and suppliers are integral to our business, and we value our mission-driven and collaborative relationships with them. We work together at every level of our value chain to drive positive impact for people, communities, and the planet.

Embedding sustainable practices throughout the value chain is an important step to amplify environmental and social initiatives. We work closely with our vendors, partners, and stakeholders to drive progress around these areas.

Our Supplier Code of Conduct is used to communicate our expectations to suppliers about social, environmental, labor, and ethical practices.
our active bases

Flair is committed to being a responsible steward of local and global ecosystems. We are embedding sustainability strategies throughout our operational footprint to limit our impact on the environment and to protect Canada’s natural resources. Our initiatives focus on sustainable procurement, waste, water, air quality, and biodiversity. Our thoughtful movement toward sustainability and protecting the environment touches all facets of our operations, including our bases and corporate offices.

Flair maintains bases in Vancouver, Edmonton, Ottawa, Toronto, and Kitchener-Waterloo. A new aircraft brings approximately 50 jobs to a base through direct and indirect employment, including customer service agents, ground handlers, cabin crews, maintenance staff, and more. In the transition to a low-carbon economy, switching from fossil-based to renewable energy sources will be critical. Flair aims to support using renewable electricity to power our ground operations and offices, diverting waste from landfills by recycling.

our carbon offsets

Carbon credits are only one part of our low emission operations strategy, but we recognize their importance in making a difference for our customers, employees, and aviation decarbonization journey. At Flair, we are focused on delivering positive impacts on our local communities, and offering clear emission reductions or removals that meet the criteria of independent carbon credit standards to help to build a better future for everyone.

Purchasing carbon offsets—an investment into a project or action, like planting trees or building solar panels to encourage environmental conservation and expansion of renewable energy - can compensate for unavoidable emissions in our communities. Our portfolio of carbon credits is drawn from the networks that we operate in, from a range of projects in Canada using proven methodologies to remove carbon from our atmosphere or avoid emissions from deforestation.

Flair is developing strong relationships, going beyond due diligence as a commitment to quality. Choose and Flair have teamed up to provide travellers with the ability to help reduce the effects of climate change by purchasing carbon-offset credits when they travel. Guests wishing to purchase credits can calculate the impact of their flight and before purchasing, and will have the option to pay a small surcharge (as low as $3) to offset emissions for seats on their Flair flight.
