Commercially produced alcohol containers are accepted as checked baggage providing they are in their original retail packages and conform to relevant Canadian laws. The percentage of alcohol by volume must be is 70% (140 proof) or less and cannot exceed five litres per person for alcoholic beverages between 24% and 70% alcohol by volume. Alcoholic beverages containing 24% alcohol or less are not subject to these limitations on quantities.

Hoverboards and lithium-powered scooters

There have been incidents of lithium battery fires within these devices due to high load ratings and the improper charging of batteries. Due to safety concerns, a passenger cannot transport a portable self-balancing recreational scooter in carry-on or checked baggage on a Flair-operated flight.

Non-spillable dry cell battery-powered wheelchair

  • Checked baggage only.
  • Battery terminals will be protected from short circuits.
  • Battery must be attached securely to a wheelchair.
  • Please request approval from the Flair Agent.

Wheelchairs/Mobility Aids Collapsible, Lithium Battery Powered

  • The removed battery(ies) must be protected from damage (e.g. by placing each battery in a protective pouch). The battery(ies) must be carried in the passenger cabin.
  • Removal of the battery(ies) from the device must be performed by following the instructions of the manufacturer or device owner.
  • The battery must not exceed 300 Wh, or for a device that is fitted with two (2) battery(ies) required for operation, each battery must not exceed 160 Wh.
  • A maximum of one (1) spare battery not exceeding 300 Wh or two (2) spares each not exceeding 160 Wh may be carried.
  • It is recommended that passengers make advance arrangements with the operator.

  • Smart Bags contain lithium-ion battery power banks, which pose a fire risk when they are placed in the cargo hold of the aircraft.
  • The battery(s) must be removed from the Smart Bag in the event it is required to go as checked baggage.
  • If the battery(s) are unable to be removed the Smart Bag will not be allowed.

cannabis

Passengers may bring cannabis in checked baggage and carry on baggage, and are responsible for knowing the laws and regulations in effect at their destination within Canada. Liquid and topical forms of cannabis are subject to liquids, aerosols and gels restrictions in carry-on baggage, and must be placed in a 1-litre clear closed and re-sealable plastic bag. Passengers may not use or consume cannabis on the aircraft.  

For medical purposes, the amount of cannabis you carry must be in accordance with the Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations. For more information, see Health Canada’s Guide to Understanding the Regulations. Cannabis oil is permitted in carry-on in a quantity of more than 100 ml when used for medicinal purposes, and you will need to remove it from your carry-on and present it to the screening officer at the entry to pre-board screening. However, if the amount of oil is 100 ml or less, it is to be placed in a 1-litre clear bag with other liquids, aerosols and gels.

Tasers and stun guns are prohibited for transport.

Each firearm must: be carried and packaged in a locked, heavy-duty container or hard-sided (opaque) gun case; be accompanied by a signed declaration; be unloaded; be rendered inoperable by way of bolt/trigger lock or disassembly. No ammunition can be carried.

The passenger will have no access to the firearms once these items have been checked in. Extra and overweight baggage charges will apply if any bag exceeds the allowances.

The following items are unacceptable as baggage and will not be transported:

• Items which are forbidden to be carried by the applicable laws, regulations, or orders of any country to be flown from, to, or over.
• Items containing substances which the possession or use thereof is prohibited or restricted under applicable laws, regulations, or orders of any country to be flown from, to, or over.
• Items which are likely to endanger the aircraft or persons or property on board the aircraft. These unacceptable items are specified in the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Dangerous Goods Regulations.
• Items, which in the Carrier’s sole and absolute opinion are unsuitable for carriage because of their weight, size or character, for example, fragile or perishable items.
• Live animals.
• Firearms, subject to the terms and conditions specified in Rule 14(J) in Flair Airlines Tariff.
• Weapons such as antique firearms, swords, knives and other similar items may be accepted as checked baggage at Flair's discretion, provided they are suitably packed.
• The passenger shall not include in the checked baggage fragile or perishable items including, but not limited to, delicate musical instruments, photographic or cinematographic equipment, smart phones, tablets or laptop computers, televisions or monitors (unless in their original packaging), money, jewellery, pottery, precious metals, glassware or items made of glass, silverware, negotiable papers, securities or other valuables, business documents, samples, passports, glass bottles, critical medications and other identification documents.
• Sporting equipment not packed in a suitable rigid or hard shell container, including but not limited to archery equipment, golfing equipment, ski and snowboard equipment and hockey equipment.
